Retired Bishop For Roman Catholic Diocese Of Syracuse Dies

ROCHESTER (WXXI) - Retired Bishop James Moynihan has died. The 84 year old former Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Syracuse was 84. He died on Monday.

Moynihan was a Rochester native, and was a priest in the Rochester Diocese for nearly 40 years before his ordination as Bishop in Syracuse in 1995.

Bishop Salvatore Matano of the Rochester Diocese released a statement saying that “We thank God for his service to the church. He was a true shepherd and an example of Christian discipleship for us all…”

There will be services this week at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse including a funeral Mass on Friday with Cardinal Timothy Dolan the celebrant for the Mass.
