Zimpher Delivers Final State Of The University Address

More State University of New York students than ever before are completing their degrees. That's according to SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher, who delivered her final State of the University address Monday.

School funding advocates are concerned that Gov. Andrew Cuomo is setting up for another political battle over school aid next year in a little-noticed provision in his new state budget.

Binghamton City School District’s superintendent was dismissed last March. There have been a couple of interim superintendents since then, but now the district is searching for a more permanent leader. David Hawley is the president of the Binghamton School Board. He spoke with WSKG's Sarah Gager about the search, which he says will conclude with a selection in the Spring.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo is proposing to offer free tuition at New York public colleges to eligible residents. 


(WBFO) The Buffalo School Board has called for Carl Paladino's resignation following disparaging comments he made about President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. In a special session this afternoon, the School Board's majority called on the Park District representative to step down.

(WRVO) A remembrance ceremony for the bombing victims of Pan Am Flight 103 was held at Syracuse University yesterday. To commemorate the anniversary, a small ceremony was held for friends and families at Hendricks Chapel and a service at Arlington National Cemetery took place simultaneously.


Officials with the Utica City School District's office reportedly were denied access to a meeting with the governor's office last week. Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi (D-Utica) said they were headed to a regular annual meeting in Albany to discuss budget priorities with other school districts when something irregular occurred.

What a difference a two hour drive can make. Students in Erie, Pa. attend a public school district that’s teetering on the brink of collapse. Staffing has been downsized to bare-bones levels. Many of the schools are badly in need of repairs. And the superintendent has proposed shuttering all high schools. The city district, though, is surrounded on all sides by better-resourced suburban schools that serve less needy children.
