How Big Cuts At The EPA Will Impact Pennsylvania

As a candidate, Donald Trump promised to drastically reduce the size and scope of the Environmental Protection Agency. A memo by the White House Office of Management and Budget indicates that’s still the plan. The memo outlines a proposed 25 percent cut to EPA’s $8-billion budget, including reductions in state grants for clean air and water programs. 

Trump Administration Orders Temporary Media Blackout At EPA, Freezes Grants

The Trump administration has implemented a temporary media “black out” at the Environmental Protection Agency, according to a report by the Associated Press that cited emails to EPA staffers. EPA press releases, blog post updates, and social media posts are banned for an indeterminate amount of time. All media requests are to be forwarded to the Agency’s office of administration.

Government officials have announced a settlement with a global glass manufacturer that also has operations in Ontario County. It involves alleged violations of the Clean Air Act.

  Environmentalists on Tuesday called on Pennsylvania to act to reduce methane emissions from existing natural gas infrastructure and build on proposed federal standards that would cut emissions of the gas from new and modified plants. States have until 2030 to get their carbon emissions down to 32-percent below 2005 levels, under guidelines laid out in the Clean Power Plan announced by President Obama earlier this week.

The regulations have drawn cheers from environmentalists but there’s also plenty of criticism. But Northeast Regional Director, Judith Enck ,says the rules aren’t as draconian as opponents claim.
