Quick recap
Two Delta Connection jets operated by Endeavor Air bumped into each other while taxiing at LaGuardia late one evening. No dramatic midair scene — it was a low-speed collision on the ground, but still enough to rattle people and damage a wing.
How it happened
The incident took place just before 10 p.m. Eastern at the intersection of Taxiways M and A. Flight 5047, arriving from Charlotte, was rolling toward its gate when it came into contact with Flight 5155, which had been told by air traffic control to hold and yield. The FAA says 5047 struck 5155 during taxi.
What was damaged and who was hurt
Preliminary reports indicate the wing of Flight 5155 made contact with the fuselage of Flight 5047. One flight attendant suffered a minor injury, was treated on scene by EMTs and later taken to a hospital. Thankfully there were no reports of serious injuries.
Who was on board
Flight 5155 was carrying 32 people (28 passengers and four crew). Flight 5047 had 61 people on board (57 passengers and four crew). Everyone was eventually disembarked and helped off the aircraft.
Onboard reactions and video
A passenger who works for a news outlet recorded video showing visible wing damage on the other plane. Crew members calmly informed passengers that the aircraft had been struck; people described loud, unsettling noises and discovering that the wing looked badly damaged when they could inspect it.
Aftermath and passenger care
Passengers were moved onto shuttle buses and, where needed, were offered hotel rooms and rebooking onto new flights the next day. Airport officials said the event did not disrupt broader LaGuardia operations.
Delta and officials
Delta said its teams at LaGuardia were assisting customers and coordinating with authorities to investigate what happened, stressing that safety is the top priority. The airline apologized for the inconvenience and said it would work with regulators as they review the situation.
