Quick snapshot
Late Thursday, a police pursuit tore through Buckhead and came to an ugly halt at the intersection of Peachtree and Piedmont. What started as an attempted traffic stop turned into a full-on chase, a crash, a foot pursuit and a taser-assisted arrest. No one suffered life-threatening injuries, but several people — including troopers — needed medical attention.
The chase, in plain English
State troopers say they tried to pull over a Range Rover on Peachtree Road. The driver ignored the order to stop and kept driving, weaving through the neighborhood until the vehicle blew a red light at Peachtree and Piedmont and collided with a civilian car. That collision is what finally stopped the pursuit.
Foot pursuit and takedown
After the crash, the driver allegedly bolted from the scene. Troopers chased on foot, and during that scramble two troopers sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. Another trooper used a taser to subdue and detain the suspect.
Injuries and medicals
Both the suspect and the other driver were hurt but not critically — officials described their injuries as non-life-threatening. The driver of the civilian car declined transport to the hospital; the suspect was taken in for medical clearance before being booked.
Scene control and investigation
Emergency crews swarmed the area and the busy intersection was closed for several hours while officers processed the scene and removed damaged vehicles. Authorities have not released the suspect’s name or any charges yet. The investigation is ongoing.
So what now?
Expect more details as the case progresses — official statements, potential charges and whatever footage or witness accounts investigators pull together. For now, Buckhead residents probably breathed a cautious sigh once the chaos cleared and traffic started crawling again.
