Quick Recap: Sweep City
The Las Vegas Aces wrapped up the Finals with a 97-86 win over the Phoenix Mercury, completing a clean four-game sweep. This series was the league’s first best-of-seven Finals, and Vegas turned it into a short vacation — they piled up points, raced out fast, and didn’t let Phoenix catch their breath.
Scoreboard Stars
A’ja Wilson led the charge with 31 points — she wasn’t lighting it up from the field (7-for-21) but made nearly everything at the line (17-for-19). Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young chipped in 18 points apiece, with Gray drilling four triples and hitting a couple of big ones in the fourth to shut down any late Mercury comeback.
Phoenix Fight: Bright Spots, Tough Breaks
Kahleah Copper battled hard for Phoenix and finished with 30 points on 12-of-22 shooting. Alyssa Thomas put up a monster triple-double — 17 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists — but the Mercury ran into a couple of game-day gremlins: they were missing Satou Sabally after a concussion in Game 3, and Thomas took a hard shoulder hit just before halftime and was hobbled after returning.
How the Game Unfolded
Las Vegas never trailed in the clincher. They shot well early, closed the first quarter up 30-21, and had 54 points by halftime. An early run by Phoenix in the fourth trimmed the lead to 76-70, but that was as close as they got — Vegas weathered the spurt and closed smartly.
Off-Court (and On-Court) Drama
Tempers flared: Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts was ejected in the third quarter after two technical fouls, and later DeWanna Bonner and Kahleah Copper also picked up technicals. Those emotional swings didn’t help Phoenix’s attempt to wrest control back from a red-hot Aces squad.
Road to the Finals
Phoenix earned their Finals spot with gritty postseason wins over the New York Liberty and the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx. Still, they couldn’t find a way to slow Vegas’ offense, which averaged more than 90 points per game across the series.
What This Means
Three championships in four seasons? That’s dynasty talk. Between A’ja Wilson’s MVP-caliber presence and depth shooters like Gray and Young, the Aces look built to keep winning. Phoenix showed heart and flashes of brilliance, but injuries and foul trouble made the climb too steep this time.
Final Thought (with a Wink)
Vegas celebrated, Phoenix regrouped, and neutral fans probably just enjoyed a lot of fireworks — on the court and in the technicals. If you’re keeping score: Aces rule the roost for now. Pass the confetti.
